A coil of self-inductance L carries a current given by
I = Imaxsin(2pft).
The self induced emf in the coil is
eL = -LdI/dt.
| Develop a Excel spreadsheet to calculate I as a function of t. Choose Imax = 2 A, f = 60 Hz, and L = 10 mH. | |
| Plot I and eLversus t. Label your axes with the correct units. | |
| Compare the plots. What is different and what is the same? |
Note:
Since the frequency is 60 Hz, the period for one oscillation is (1/60)s. If you want to see the oscillations, you must take time steps small compared to (1/60)s. So the time in your spreadsheet should probable run fro 0 to ~40 milliseconds in steps of 1/2 milliseconds. This gives you a little over 2 oscillations in your plot.
