Physics 136,  Introductory Physics with Calculus II

Physics 136 is a Web-based, first-year physics course for majors in mathematics, physics, computer science, and the physical sciences.  It is a four-hour course.

The course uses interactive, Web-based class modules, a textbook, and a CD-ROM.  All class materials except for the textbook and the accompanying workbook and CD are available on the Web.  Labs are also Web based.  Students enrolled in Physics 136 must use their registered  password to access the assignments.  An announcement and discussion forum lets students communicate with each other and with the instructor.  Students are also encouraged to communicate with the instructor via e-mail.

Homework assignments:
Homework assignments are based on the material covered in the Web-based modules.  The Web-based class modules that are available at the course's Web site are divided into sub-modules.  Each sub-module is associate with a homework assignment which students must submit over the Web. Assignments can be handed in up to 3 times and the highest score counts.  The computer informs students of their score after each submission.  If after the first submission you do not receive the full score, you are encouraged to ask questions via e-mail.
Laboratories:
Students have to complete 10 interactive, Web-based laboratories.  The labs support the modules and students are encouraged to complete each lab when they complete the corresponding module.  For most of the labs students need Internet Explorer on a Windows system to take data off video clips.
Exams:
There will be three proctored, Web-based exams.  The exams are based on the material covered in the Web-based modules.
Extra credit:
An extra credit assignment is embedded in each of the 10 modules.  Each extra credit assignment is worth up to 5 points.  Extra credit assignments must be handed in on time via e-mail.
Grades:
Each exam is worth a maximum of 100 points. The homework assignments are worth a maximum of 100 points and the lab reports are also worth a maximum of 100 points.   Extra credit points are added to your total score from tests, homework assignments, and laboratories.
