Students will study solutions to the wave equation in a
non-uniform dielectric to arrive at the modes in a multimode fiber. They
will analyze the dielectric slab wave guide. Students will investigate
pulse propagation along a the single mode fiber and the propagation of a pulse
through a dispersive system.
