Problem 1:

Assume that you are supposed to build a magneto-optic trap for 133Cs atoms.  The trapping transition is the 6 S1/2 F = 4 to 6 P3/2 F' = 5 transition.

(a)  Specify the laser(s) needed for this experiment (wavelength, power, tuning range, etc).

(b)  Explain how how you would tune and stabilize the laser frequency and what frequency you would lock the lasers to.

(c)  Explain your experimental setup.

(d)  What methods would you use to verify that you are trapping 133Cs atoms and to characterize your trap?
