

Physics 136, Introductory Physics with Calculus II,
Section3, Spring 2008
Physics 136 is a Web-based, first-year physics course for majors in
mathematics, physics, computer science, and the physical sciences. It is a
four-hour course. Only students which have already completed a first-year
calculus course are allowed to register for Physics 136 without co-registering
for Mathematics 142.
The course uses a textbook, a CD-ROM, and interactive, Web-based class
modules. There are no formal lectures.
Students are required to complete the online
laboratories before the indicated due dates.
Students enrolled in Physics 136 must register
a username and password to access the assignments and check their grades.

 | Homework assignments:
 | Homework assignments are based on the
material covered in the Web-based modules. Students are expected to
complete two class modules per week and submit the assignments
associated with each module on time
over the Web.

 | Exams:
 | There will be two in-class exams on February 11 or 12 and on
March 27 or 28, and a final exam during the exam period on May 5 or 6.
The exams will be given in PHY 203. The exams are based on the material
covered in the Web-based modules. Students with a
scheduling conflict must contact the instructor. An alternate exam time
can be arranged. |

 | Extra credit:
 | An extra credit assignment is embedded in each of the 10
modules. Each extra credit assignment is worth up to 5
points. Extra credit assignments must be handed in on time via
e-mail. |

 | Each exam is worth a maximum of 100 points. The homework assignments are worth a maximum
of 100 points and the lab reports are also worth a maximum of 100 points.
Extra credit points are added to your total score from
tests, homework assignments, and laboratories.
